                                                                      BLIND DOG

I bought a porcelain dog
at a second hand store
Blind Willie  stands and stares at me
with perpendicular eyes

he needs food
and a water bowl
I need  love
and his bark

we stand frustrated

ha. if you can get porcelain to bark...it will surely be a miracle...or if he eats...smiles...sounds like unmet expectation to me...

Frustrating, indeed....but wow is this good.

(Ages ago I went on a date with a guy who had his favorite dog stuffed and sitting beside his sofa. I couldn't see him again after that!)

I like this. Perfect combination of desire and frustration and mystery.

When he barks, he'll be so happy, after being stifled in the shell of porcelain for so long, that he'll break.

I have seen several poems based on this portrait, but yours was the only one with a "pre-fab" dog. The idea of waiting for what can never logically come is part sad, part too funny. Waiting for it to bark? When it does, call a doctor!! Peace, Amy
