found this note in a bottle on a Havana beach
....this is a draft...
2EH
I lie here on my bunk sailing my beloved Santana
contemplating if I should finish this scotch
Lauren is sitting on the deck smoking rolled cigs
we have just finished Key Largo and heading to Havana
Key Largo wasn't much of a film
but god dam better than To Have And Not Have
that piece of shit you wrote
a bunch of long sentences about dumb characters
you must have needed money
spitting words on the Prado
or some empty bait bucket
drunk on your boat with no vision
fishing for words
plagiarizing your agnostic god
falling to the coral below the sea
pouring another mojito
letting your emotional life
be run by rum and empty words
drifting on your fish boat without your mind
well the sun is rising Ernie
this bloody bottle is empty
and the world is still three drinks behind us
drinking ourselves to extinction
heres lookin at ya
see you in Havana

This was a very engaging piece Wayne. Naught can be done when the bottle's bottoms up and nothin's flowin' out -- but to move on...
I saw you had some trouble posting, so I looked at your posts. On one or two you forgot to insert the word "Blogspot", and that confused the Spaminator regarding the rest of your attempts - but it is straightened out now... ;)
nice to see you on the Island... ;)
Wayne,
Nice poem for the prompt. I love mojitos yum!
Pamela
Great feel. I can almost imagine them stuffing shorter and shorter versions into every bottle they empty and throwing them--corked or not--over the rail.
Wayne, nice touch making your message in a bottle be one from Humphrey Bogart to Ernest Hemingway. Love these lines:
drunk on your boat with no vision
fishing for words
plagiarizing your agnostic god
and
the world is still three drinks behind us
drinking ourselves to extinction
hi Wayne, Great signature piece.
Like
'and the world is still three drinks behind us
drinking ourselves to extinction'
A great take on the prompt. Good to see you again.
Hi Wayne--Powerful piece. Like Paul, I really like some of these lines, including the ones he mentioned as well as
"spitting words on the Prado
or some empty bait bucket" and "fishing for words." --& Namaste to you!
Clever and well written. I like the idea of finding Bogies note. Well done.
Nothing like spitting out the truth, tossing it into a bottle, and then letting it go. Expectation? Had my say and no one will see it. But then, darn, it beached at Havana and everyone knows where Ernie hangs out.
Loved this,
Annie
